Jute — We see the world..connected.

Jute Networks, VisualComplexity.com & HATCH Asheville 2009

Back in Spring 2009, Jute Networks co-founder Sean McDonald moderated a series of forums for the Design & Technology discipline of HATCH Asheville, a creative arts and mentoring festival in Asheville, NC.  Among the D&T “mentors” participating was Manuel Lima, the designer and developer of VisualComplexity.com, the world’s finest index of complex network visualizations.  He was in good company alongside Evan Twyford, who helps design future generations of lunar rovers for NASA, Joe Wilcox who invents toys and engineers for IDEO and other pioneers in American Design & Technology.  (See the full list of HATCH mentors at their website.)

Manuel wrote about his HATCH experience at the VC Blog, and we’re proud he mentioned our work here at Jute Networks.  I was fortunate enough to sit down with Manuel for the better part of an afternoon at Jack of The Wood, a brewhouse in downtown Asheville, and give him the grand tour of Jute NRM1, our prototype version of the NRM.

I was also impressed with the amount of work, dedication and innovation that has been put in place by Sean McDonald and the remaining Jute Networks team, in the creation of an immensely powerful network analysis tool

Manuel was  gracious with his compliments and he was particularly fond of the importer applet Matt built to get spreadsheets into the system.  (We believe it’s important to make it easy to get your data in the right format…)
