Social Network Analysis & Social Network Visualization

The primary user interface for Jute puts contacts and relationships in an interactive data visualization interface, rather than a context-deprived table / spreadsheet format.

  • Individual View Single point of centrality
    • Visualize relationship length by strength
    • Select degrees from center to display
  • Group Multiple points of centrality
    • Select degrees from center to display
  • Path Search All paths from Point A to Point B
  • Whole Network / Eigenvalues put to work
    • Set “prune” value to choose inbound link score required to be visualized
    • Identify “power nodes” and “high traffic nodes
  • Likeness Calculating similarity of contacts in the system
    • Displays concentric circles to group contacts by likeness
    • Choose degrees of likeness to display

Navigation / Exploration

To navigate your network, Prototype offers a variety of tools–from common “map navigation” features to unique filtering and visualization tools.

Input / Import

There are three situations where you might add data:  live from the visualization interface, when you upload an address book and when you have existing data.

Exporting

The idea is that you can explain networks to colleagues quickly and easily.

  • PNG images of network currently displayed on screen
  • PDF export of:  single contact or multiple contacts
  • Send contact profile / group of contacts to a friend (inside Jute) without sharing network document

Profiles

Data can come from almost any source.  In this way, Jute NRM Prototype is almost like an aggregator for the information you have throughout your company’s data (and your personal data).

  • Separate Profiles for Contacts (nodes) and relationships (paths)
  • Multiple types (classes) of contacts and relationships stored in each network
  • Customizable attributes and groups of attributes for each profile
  • Frontend management interface for customizing fields
  • Templates for different types of networks (configurable by XML only)

Network Document Management

Jute is not a social network.  It’s an NRM.  Which means that you can have as many networks as you need.  People do not join networks–they just existing you network documents.

  • Database-as-a-document design creates network document for each network (think:  Google Docs model)
  • Collaborative sharing of networks across multiple user accounts
  • Publishing to public networks which are displayed in the PublicMaps browser (disabled in the currently available version of Prototype)
